Qodeca: making the interface responsive sooner

Changes to script execution, video delivery and fonts reduced blocking during page load. Separate work for The Bay Club addressed PDF distribution.

TOTAL BLOCKING TIME · LAB 750 → 10 ms
MOBILE PAGESPEED · LAB 41 → 71+
FONT TRANSFER SIZE −65%

[ 01. BUSINESS CONTEXT ]

What needed to change

Qodeca’s website had competing demands: rich visual content, marketing scripts and an interface that should respond promptly. The reported initial laboratory result was a mobile PageSpeed score of 41 and Total Blocking Time of 750 ms. The work focused on the causes of that blocking and on how media reached the browser. For Qodeca’s client The Bay Club, a separate infrastructure task addressed heavy PDF downloads.

[ 02. SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE ]

How the system fits together

[ Qodeca: page load ]
    ├── Interface and essential content
├── Optimised video and WOFF2 fonts
└── First user interaction → deferred marketing scripts

[ 03. ARCHITECTURAL DECISIONS ]

Scope and key decisions

1. Change when scripts run. We implemented an interaction-triggered loader to defer heavy tracking scripts until a pointer, scroll or touch event. This reduced their contribution to the initial page-load workload. 2. Improve the media pipeline. Optimised video files bypassed Webflow’s re-compression path. Font conversion and subsetting reduced the amount of typography data sent to the browser. 3. Separate document delivery. For The Bay Club, Cloudflare Workers and R2 handled PDF downloads outside the Webflow asset path. Deferring a script changes when its work happens. The reported lab result concerns initial load; it does not establish responsiveness after every later interaction.

[ 04. RESULTS & DELIVERY STATUS ]

What the work delivered

▶ The reported laboratory comparison shows Total Blocking Time falling from 750 to 10 ms.
▶ The reported mobile PageSpeed score rose from 41 to 71+, while font transfer size fell by 65%.
▶ The Bay Club’s PDF delivery was moved to a separate Workers and R2 path. The Qodeca performance numbers are not attributed to that work.

When this approach applies

Relevant when scripts, video or large downloads limit the performance of an established product or publishing platform and the underlying delivery decisions need attention.
